What is an “After-Paint” painting from wedding photos?
The term “After-Paint“ -in the live event industry- is a detailed and polished painting made using high resolution photos from the wedding or event as main references.
Before commission an After-Paint made sure you have your photographer’s permission and acknowledgement, to give him or her the well deserved credits. Only then it is ok to share the photos to your selected painter to recreate them into a unique painting.
This is an example of an After- Paint I created using a combination of wedding photos.
To celebrate their wedding anniversary, my friend asked me if I could create a painting from her wedding photo-shoot.
She didn’t have a favourite picture, but many. She remembered moments of pure happiness in one picture, but thought they looked their best on other pictures. And her horse, Co, it would have been nice to have him around with them on this special day.

This is how an After-Paint commission works:
1. Select your photos
She chose her most cherished pictures and told me why they are so special for them, so that I can integrate those moments together in a balanced composition.
2. From collage to sketch
To plan the composition, this part of the process felt a little bit like photoshop. I cut out their most flattering figures and set them together in their preferred background: nature, accompanied by Co, their horse.
My friend wanted this to be a surprise to them, and trusted in my instinct for this.
But other clients prefer to discuss the sketch, give their approval, before I start the painting.
After-paint in the studio, working with the photos as reference.
3. Painting and feedback-round.
When I think the painting is ready to show, I’ll send a photo to you. If you wish to adjust some details, we can work them out in this round. For instance, the horse needed more special features, etc.
4. Perfect, I love it! moment
Once you are happy with the result, I add a couple of varnish layers to your painting, before packaging it and shipping it to your home.
This painting was completely made in acrylics, but you can choose for a mixed media materials, adding oil paint details.
5. Packaging, shipping and delivery
All details about timing, packaging, etc, you can find them on Terms & Conditions.
Tip
You can commission a Live Wedding Painting plus After-Paint touch-ups if you choose for extra polished details to your painting.
